About

Equal Pay Day marks the point in the year at which women's earnings will finally match what men made the previous year. To raise awareness about the national gender wage gap, Lean In DC will host an exclusive happy hour event at District Winery (385 Water St SE) in Washington, D.C., on April 9th from 6-8:30 p.m.

You'll hear from leading voices in the fight for equal pay, and learn what you can do to help narrow the gender wage gap. Plus, you'll get an inside scoop on how you can support those who stand up for pay equity throughout the day on April 10th - this year's Equal Pay Day.

District Winery will generously provide a private event space along with wine, cheese and other accompaniments to all attendees!

All women and their allies (including men!) are encouraged to attend this year's happy hour event.

#20PercentCounts

Support those who support equal pay!

Equal Pay Day marks the point in the year at which women's earnings will finally match what men made the previous year.

To raise awareness about the fact that women in the U.S., on average, earn 20% less than their male counteraprts, Lean In DC is supporting dozens of area businesses who are participating in #20PercentCounts and donating 20% of their proceeds on April 10th to organizations that support women and families impacted by the gender pay gap.

This year's participating businesses will donate to The Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Dress for Success, The American Association of University Women, and Feeding America.

Planning to take part in our kickoff happy hour or other Equal Pay Day events? Be sure to share your experiences with us - and give a shout-out to participating businesses - on social media using #20PercentCounts and #LeanInDC.

"

We have to understand that the pay gap is happening to women and men with similar jobs that require similar skills and similar educational levels — and that has a real impact. The number of working women living in poverty would be cut in half if women were just paid the same as men. So, this is important for our businesses and this is important for our country.
